Sovereign State

sovereign state is a state with borders where people live, and where a government makes laws and talks to other sovereign states. The people have to follow the laws that the government makes.

The British people voted to remain in the Common Market in June 1975.  This was a free trade arrangement only.

The Common Market has evolved into the European Union.

Being part of the European Union means the United Kingdom is no longer a Sovereign State.  Most importantly:

The British people are subject to European laws.
The European laws are introduced by politicians that the British people did not vote for.
Great Britain cannot control its borders.
